I’m so excited to learn more about Cornwall! A podcast I listened to did a whole episode on it a few months ago and I realized how little I know about the world we live in, and I was captivated by the Cornish lore.
Yes. The Wolf Sanctuary. They live in enclosures as it's safer for everyone concerned.
There's an ongoing debate about bringing them back as truly wild creatures, but we are not ready as a society, for that. I personally think that England's population density is too high to be wolf-friendly, but it might be a possibility for Scotland in the future. The reintroduction would have to be very carefully done - bringing back beavers was deeply controversial and they are not large, free-ranging carnivores!
California wolves have been slowly introduced but again, away from the population areas. Mind, people are also used to having coyotes there, although the wolves are a few sizes up!
Wife and I visited Cornwall a couple of times, and once we drove into the little coastal town of Mousehole. Found out from a local that you do not pronounce it the way you see it. It’s mouz-el.

Yep. There's lots of linguistic traps down here for the unwary.
The British Library issued a volume of supernatural fiction stories set in Cornwall, which gave me an outline of much of what you described here.
Hi Dave. That's really interesting - could you let me know the title?
