My AI Policy

All posts and published podcasts are created by me. Hence the odd typo or mispronunciation in my audio. You are hearing me reading the stories out loud. Since I am 75% deaf, this is one of the most creatively terrifying things I have done.

I also create my own banners in Canva, commission them from other artists (with credits) or use free stock photography. I experimented with AI artwork in the past and disliked the outcome from an ethical and creative viewpoint.

Where I use AI

I record in Descript and use their AI bot (called Underlord) to clean up the audio and add the intro/outro music.

For drafting, I use Living Writer. It has built-in spell-checking and an AI chatbot for interrogating the manuscript (“how often do I use the Oxford comma?”). The main reason I love it is that the plotboard planners help me keep track of the storyline and themes. What LivingWriter cannot do is write or plan for me.

My line in the sand is fun, connection and creativity.

I regard AI in the same way I regard a dishwasher. It’s useful for repetitive tasks around the corners of my own work. However, AI will not replace my writing any more than I would buy a sex robot to occupy my husband. Nor do I want to use it to steal other artists’ work.
